UPDATE: Emergency Repairs Being Made To Route 72 Eastbound Causeway Bridge After Pipe Collapses:DOT
Pipe and water main collapse repairs have to be made.

The Route 72 eastbound lanes were closed late Friday and this morning after a pipe collapsed on Ship Bottom on Friday, a state Department of Transportation spokesman said.
Now there's another complication from a water main break in Ship Bottom, according to a Nixle alert from the Long Beach Township Police Department.

Motorists should expect congestion and delays at a time when many are heading to Long Beach Island for a summer weekend.
The DOT's contractor - Mount Construction - will have to open the roadway and replace the collapsed drainage pipe, said DOT spokesman Kevin Israel.

Travel lanes will be shifted to the right until Saturday morning. They will then be shifted to the left to complete the repairs. Two lanes will be maintained at all time. The repairs should be finished by Sunday, he said.
Variable message signs are being used throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the interchange improvements project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road closures.
