In celebration of Black History Month the Ocean County Library system is holding a series of cultural and historical events.
On February 16 at the Barnegat Branch you can Learn how Mary Bowser became an unsung Civil War hero and one of the most important figures in the winning of the war that divided a nation. Lorraine Stone, actor, dancer, poet, and performance artist will bring to life the story of Mary Bowser. Born a slave on the Van Lew property in Richmond, Virginia, Bowser's life took several turns that put her in the position to aid the North in its battle against the Confederacy in the most unusual way and more than once.
For more events you can visit the Ocean County Library website.
