Man Injured In Freehold Shooting That Shut Down Local Library: MCPO
The man is in "critical but stable condition" as of Friday evening, authorities told Patch.
FREEHOLD, NJ — A man is in "critical but stable condition" following a shooting inside the Freehold Borough Public Library on Thursday, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office told Patch.
The incident took place inside the library on East Main Street at 4:21 p.m. on Thursday, authorities said.
Following this incident, a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

As of Friday evening, authorities said he is in "critical but stable condition," and that investigation into the matter is active and ongoing at this time.
“Prosecutor Santiago and Chief Colaner understand how frightening yesterday’s incident was for those in the area," the prosecutor's office said in a statement sent to Patch. "Our detectives are working around the clock, actively pursuing every lead, and are committed to holding the individuals involved accountable.”

In an online post following the incident on Thursday, the Freehold Borough Public Library said its staff is safe, though the library will remain closed through Monday.
"The library will be closed through Monday, May 4, following an incident today," the library said. "Library staff are safe, scene is secure, investigation underway."

The incident is under investigation by members of the prosecutor's office Major Crimes Bureau and the Freehold Borough Police Department.
