'Exciting Moment In Barnegat': Bid Awarded For New Town Hall

Barnegat awarded a bid worth $12.9 million. Here's a rough timeline for the project.

BARNEGAT, NJ — Barnegat moved one step closer to getting a new town hall. The Township Committee unanimously voted to award a bid worth $12,964,000 to Frankoski Construction Co., Inc. at Tuesday's meeting.

Barnegat received 11 bids for the project, according to the meeting agenda. Frankoski Construction offered the cheapest, while 10 others ranged from $13,274,000 to $16,947,000.

Officials said they awarded the bid not just because of the price but because of the quality of the company's work.

"This is an exciting moment in Barnegat history," said Mayor John J. Novak. "We don’t have to worry about the next storm blowing Town Hall off its wheels anymore."

The new facility includes two stories and will cover nearly 24,000 feet. The current facility, which also houses the police station, is 13,000 square feet.

Construction could begin in the next couple months, but that will depend on approval from other government agencies, according to Township Administrator Martin J. Lisella.

The construction contract lasts 18 months from the start date, but it will take 24 months to complete the building and knock down the old site, he says.
