BARNEGAT, NJ — Christopher Gregor, charged in the April 2021 death of his 6-year-old son, will remain jailed until trial, a judge ruled Friday.

According to a report by NJ.com, Assistant Prosecutor Lynn Juan said Gregor’s actions were “nothing short of horrific, tragic, and abusive” and he should remain held in jail.

During a hearing on Friday at Superior Court in Ocean County, Juan said that Gregor “should have been looking out for his child, he should have been caring for him, he should have been helping him grow into a healthy young man,” Juan said. “And instead this defendant was abusing his son. This defendant was hurting him. He was hitting him, choking him and subjecting this victim — his own child — to ongoing abuse," the publication reported.

Mario Gallucci, Gregor's defense attorney, said he could see no reason why Gregor should not be allowed on home confinement and added that Gregor's father was "a highly-decorated retired New Jersey State Trooper," NJ.com said.

Gregor faces a first-degree murder charge and is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
