MANAHAWKIN, NJ — Chatterbox was one of her farm's more vocal animals. The duck lives along Route 9 in Manahawkin. But Chatterbox's owners haven't seen or heard her since Saturday night.

Chatterbox's name came from her always being happy and vocal around the farm, owner April Christine said. She's a call duck — a small bantam breed that's different that what you usually see around lakes.

There were no signs of an attack. Christine said generally blood or feathers would be left behind in that case. Christine suspects someone who thought Chatterbox was lost may have taken her.

Oftentimes after the grass is cut, the ducks will forage to the end of Christine's driveway or in front of the porch. Christine thinks someone may have picked Chatterbox up there.

"With all of the people that are rescuing turtles and other wildlife, trying to bring them to safety, it concerns us a bit because maybe they thought she was lost," Christine said.
