How To Run For School Board In Barnegat, Stafford

BARNEGAT, NJ — Want to make a difference? Several school board seats are up for election Nov. 5, and you might have the opportunity to run.

There will be school board elections for the following governing bodies in Barnegat and Manahawkin this fall:

• Barnegat: three openings
• Stafford: three openings
• Southern Regional: three openings

The deadline to file nominating petitions is 4 p.m. July 29. You must file at the Ocean County Clerk's Office to appear on the November ballot.

Here's a complete list of school board members in Ocean County.

You can get the petitions in person at either the Ocean County Clerk’s Main Office, at the Ocean County Courthouse, Election Services, Room 107 at 118 Washington St., Toms River, or at the Ocean County Southern Service Center, 179 South Main St., Manahawkin. The offices are staffed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Candidates can also file jointly for the same office, title and term. Candidates also have the option to select a slogan of three words or fewer to appear on the ballot under their name. Slogan selection is part of the petition.

All candidates must file a disclosure statement with their petition. The statement declares a candidate isn't a disqualified voter and has not been convicted of a disqualifying crime. Candidates also must provide an email address.

Sixty-six school board seats will appear on November ballots throughout Ocean County. A complete listing of candidates who file petitions will be available shortly after the July 29 deadline at www.oceancountyclerk.com or www.facebook.com/oceancountyclerk.
