'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' Onstage at BHS
Bengal actors and actresses display talent and energy on opening night of the school's spring play.
Three months of hard work paid off last night as the Bengal Theatre Company took to the stage for their opening night performance of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat."
"This was a new thing for us, because it's totally sung through," said director and Barnegat High School drama and stagecraft teacher Kerry Debari of the well-loved and highly demanding musical.
"It’s a such a fun show," she said. "It’s so bright an colorful. There’s so many different styles in the music, so many things going on. The story's being told through a group of people, and we can really play with it a lot."

Student efforts went beyond the singing and dancing onstage. A stagecrew created the set, and a student orchestra provides accompaniment for the show.
Just like a football coach might rally the players before the start of a game, Director Kerry DeBari had her actors and actresses go through a warm-up last night that built enthusiasm, togetherness and a strong sense of plain old fun. She had them running through breathing exercises and hopping and making exaggerated faces, tongues stretched out as far as they would go. The energy carried over into a spirited performance.
