'Laps For Lupe' Will Benefit Ailing Southern Regional Middle School Student

Seventh-grader Guadalupe Lopez-Galindo is fighting bone cancer.

The Southern Regional Middle School "Tidal Waves" team is holding a Walk-a-Thon (“Laps for Lupe”) for one of their own next week.

Proceeds for “Laps for Lupe” will go to Guadalupe Lopez- Galindo's family to help with expenses while the seventh-grader fights osteosarcoma. Lupe is undergoing chemotherapy at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital to prepare for surgery.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26.

After the tumor in her right knee has been removed, she will resume chemotherapy. Both parents are working to care for Lupe and her two siblings as well as transporting Lupe to the clinic and hospital multiple times per week.

Each walk-a-thon participant is asked to bring a minimum $5 donation. Students who participate in the walk with a minimum $5 donation will also receive a Love for Lupe bracelet.
