Last Chance to Mail Your Taxes is Monday

Tax Day is Monday, April 15.

The deadline is here: State and federal income-tax returns must be postmarked by 11:59 p.m. Monday, April 15 to meet this year's deadline.

While most area post offices are reporting normal business hours today, the U.S. Postal Service reminds its customers they can easily avoid a trip to the post office by mailing returns or extension requests early in the day at any of the local post offices, stations, branches or collection boxes. However, tax filers using a collection box should make certain the posted pickup time has not passed to ensure returns will receive the April 15 postmark.

The postal service also reminds last-minute filers to be sure envelopes containing tax documents have the proper postage. Those that don't will be returned to the senders, causing them to miss the filing deadline.

If you're unsure whether you envelope has the proper postage, the postal service recommends taking it to a service counter to be weighed before mailing.
