LBI: Tidal Flooding Could Make Roads Impassable

Long Beach Boulevard may not be passable if coastal flooding comes to Long Beach Island this week, police say.

Long Beach Township police issued an alert earlier on Sunday now that a coastal flood watch will take effect Monday as the region prepares for a nor’easter.

Police suggested planning accordingly, and using Ocean Boulevard or Beach Avenue as an alternative route.

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly issued a coastal flood watch that will impact coastal sections of New jersey and Delaware.

Widespread, minor or moderate tidal flooding is possible for Monday, according to the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department.

Tuesday morning’s high-tide cycle will see at least minor coastal flooding, and there is potential for moderate flooding. A “watch” has not been issued for Tuesday yet to avoid “headline confusion,” according to the Sheriff’s Department.

In addition, wind-driven heavy rains will exacerbate the conditions Tuesday.
