LBI Town Sets Curfew For Minors, Bans Late-Night Beach Gatherings

In an attempt to combat the pop-up parties at the shore this summer, one town has implemented a curfew for minors.

LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP, NJ — In an attempt to combat the large pop-up parties and other events at the Jersey Shore, one shore town has implemented a curfew for minors.

Long Beach Township on Long Beach Island issued an emergency declaration and order dated Aug. 2, 2022 saying that until further notice, people under the age of 17 cannot be outside in public areas after 12 a.m. and until 5 a.m.

The order specifically cites "pop-up parties and large groups and events in the late evening and nighttime hours that include juveniles and young adults" as the reason for the curfew.

Additionally, groups of 10 or more are not allowed to congregate on beaches after 10 p.m. and until 5 a.m. the following day.

These gatherings not only draw complaints from the community, they also pose danger to the public health, safety and welfare of the shore town, the order said.

Minors can be outside during these times as long as they are with a parent or legal guardian, or traveling to and from work.

Similar curfews have been implemented in the township in the past two years.

The emergency management coordinator, police department and beach patrol will enforce the order.
