Manahawkin resident supports current mayor and council candidates in Tuesday's election.

A letter to the editor from John D. Bodine, Sr.

I have not done this before but I appreciate the opportunity being offered by the Patch this election. I feel obligated to say that our mayor and town council have done a great job here in town with respect to all things that I can see with some that need special mention.

As we come onto the third anniversary of Sandy, we all saw them as a group heave to for those in the most need and on behalf of us all. All of our town, whether the police, fire or any department you mention, as well as a cadre of citizens came together during this trying time. It made me proud and I’m sure others felt the same. It bespoke of an excellent example of fine organization. The same remains to this day; well started, well before the storm.

I can’t say I know much about the fresh start folks except that I have no doubt they are fine, good folks that want to do well for Stafford Township and to that I say bravo. In these days, the fact that good people step up to run for these positions is a great credit to our town that at times seems to border on being a city.

To finish, it seems to be the measure of a person or group that is defined by the mud that they need to sling; or not to sling hopefully. In elections in the past, in the final days, our mailboxes are stuffed with the dreck that would gag a septic tank. Indicative of the final act of desperation by people we can no longer take seriously except to pity. I really hope for a higher road approach this cycle, it’s not really a time to grind axes.
