Long Beach Township Police Step Up Patrols For Illegal Fireworks Over Fourth Of July
Residents and visitors urged to attend the legal fireworks display in Beach Haven.

Don't you even think about lighting that bottle rocket, sparkler or any heavy-duty illegal fireworks in Long Beach Township.
The Long Beach Township Police Department is asking for the community’s cooperation to support an "Anti-Fireworks" campaign.
"Hopefully, by educating the public on the many hazards of fireworks, and the prohibition of their use, we can create and enjoy a safer and more peaceful July 4th weekend holiday, according to the police department's Facebook page.

Hundreds of state residents have been injured and treated over the past few years for injuries related to the use of illegal fireworks, the post states.
"Additionally, our own Long Beach Township community has registered countless complaints against the use of fireworks due to the excessive and alarming noise," according to the post. "And, from the risk of fire to homes, dune grass, fencing and other structures which has been experienced in the past."

Police patrols will be stepped up to spot the use of illegal fireworks over the holiday weekend. Possession of fireworks is punishable by a fine or even imprisonment, the post states.
Residents can enjoy public fireworks display such as the Bay Village show in Beach Haven at dusk on July 4.
