Man Critically Injured In Little Egg Harbor Fireworks Accident

The man lit mortar fireworks, which went off prematurely in his hands, witnesses told police.

LITTLE EGG HARBOR, NJ — A man sustained critical injuries in a fireworks accident Sunday morning in Little Egg Harbor. The victim lit a mortar firework, which went off prematurely in his hands, witnesses told police.

The incident took place at about 1 a.m. Sunday on Great Bay Blvd. Police found the 23-year-old Little Egg Harbor man semiconscious and bleeding from his head. He also suffered hand injuries.

Officials airlifted him to the Cooper Trauma Center in Camden, where he is currently listed in critical condition, police said Monday morning. Police didn't publicly identify the victim.

"This tragic incident provides a potent reminder to our community that illegal fireworks can be dangerous and unpredictable and should only be used by licensed, trained professionals," Little Egg Harbor police said.
