Maryann B. Burnet, “Mare”, 88, of Beach Haven Park, beloved wife of the late William (Bill) E. Burnet IX, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Southern Ocean Medical Center in Manahawkin.
A loving wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother, she was born in Ardmore, PA on July 3, 1927. Maryann attended Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, PA and graduated in 1945. She attended Grove City College in Grove City, PA and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949.
After many years of part-time living on Long Beach Island, Bill and his wife “Mare” moved to LBI in 1996 as full time residents into the quaint Cape Cod house that Bill’s father built in 1933. Maryann was active in the Beach Haven Park Association, Beach Haven Park Yacht Club, the Garden Club, and the Kynett Methodist Church, all of Long Beach Island. Maryann and Bill were elevated to lifetime members of BHPYC in 2014 in recognition of their contributions, devotions, and hard work to the club as treasurer, apparel committee chair and membership committee.
Maryann’s life became fulfilled when she met and married the love of her life in 1951, and they have two children, Joanne “Jody” Betz of Havertown, PA, and William (Bill) Ely Burnet X and his wife Joan of Apex, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, William Ely Burnet XI, Kevin James Burnet and his fiancée Zoe, Kathryn Jean Burnet, Christopher William Betz and his wife Sonya, Gregory Kenneth Betz and his fiancée Allie, and Timothy Randolph Betz and his wife Gail. She is also survived by her brother, Levis Baldwin and his wife Wanda.
A visitation and celebration of Maryann’s life will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, July 31 at the Bugbee-Riggs Funeral Home, 1119 Long Beach Blvd., corner of 12th Street, Ship Bottom. A memorial service honoring Maryann will be held at a later date at the Kynett United Methodist Church of Beach Haven, 127 Center Street and Beach Avenue, Beach Haven, NJ 08008, followed by interment of cremated remains at Holy Innocent’s Memorial Garden, Beach Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kynett Methodist Church.
