MATES Named One Of Top 100 High Schools In New Jersey
Niche.com ranked the best public high schools in the state of New Jersey.

The Marine Academy of Technical and Environmental Sciences - MATES - has been ranked number 18 of the top high schools in New Jersey, according to Niche.com
Niche.com is dedicated to evaluating U.S. and Puerto Rican schools based on parent and student reviews.
The specialized high school on Cedar Bridge Road in Manahawkin has only 240 students. The high school has a 90 percent graduation rate, compared to the national average of 81 percent.

MATES has an overall Niche grade of A+.
“Academics is challenging and competitive,” one senior wrote. “If you get into the school, that’s great. However, to stay in the curriculum for 4 years is a challenge itself. Lots of hard work is involved, but you really get the best out of it. Some of my classmates could not take the competition and dropped out, where they went to the public high school for their town.”

The website uses a very detailed set of methods to rank the top 100 schools in New Jersey. The site collected 4.6 million opinions from 280,000 New Jersey students and parents.
According to Niche.com, a high overall ranking includes the following criteria:
- Students are very happy with their experience in all aspects including academics, teachers, health, safety, resources, facilities, extracurriculars, sports, and fitness;
- District schools are exceptional academic institutions in terms of teachers, students, resources for learning, and student outcomes;
- District schools are made up of a diverse population and fosters an accepting, positive school culture;
- Students are actively involved in a variety of extracurriculars and sports the district offers.
