Motorcyclist Flown To Jersey Shore After Bike Collides With Car On Route 9 In Stafford

Route 9 was closed to traffic in both directions for half an hour, then reopened.

An Ocean Gate man suffered arm and leg injuries after his Kawasaki motorcycle struck a Mercedes-Benz on Route 9 near the Ocean Club Fitness Center Mondayafternoon, Capt. Thomas J. Dellane said.

Jesse Margaretta, 21 was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center after the 12:42 p.m. accident near milepost 69.3. Mary Spiaggia, 74, was traveling southbound on Route 9 and was attempting to make a right turn into a local business when her vehicle was struck on the right side by Margaretta’s motorcycle, Dellane said.

Margaretta was treated at the scene by the Stafford Township EMS and MONOC Paramedics and flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center-Trauma Unit for precautionary reasons. His condition is not believed to be life -threatening, he said.

Route 9 was closed to traffic in both directions for approximately 30 minutes and traffic was diverted around the area. The incident is under investigation by the Traffic Safety Unit. Witnesses are asked to contact 609-597-1189 ext. 8436. No summonses have been issued pending the outcome of the police investigation, Dellane said.
