BARNEGAT, NJ — Some say good fences make good neighbors. But in Barnegat, all it took was a hose and a quick response. A neighbor with a garden hose kept a home fire at bay Monday evening in the Mirage development, officials said.

Barnegat Station 11 and Stafford Station 47 responded to the fire at about 7:30 p.m. Officials discovered a light smoke coming from the back of the home that the neighbor kept in control.

Firefighters then quickly stretched a hand line to extinguish the fire. Barnegat Station 11 gave recognition to the neighbors calling 911, a quick response from emergency services and an effective knockdown from crews.
