New Lights On Manahawkin Bay Bridge Will Retain The Original 'String Of Pearls' Lighting System

New lights will be a more efficient LED system than the old fluorescent lights, state Department of Transportation officials say.

The Route 72 causeway bridge’s “string of pearls” lighting system was the first of its kind when state Department of Transportation engineer Dorland J. Henderson designed back in the 1950s, according to The Sandpaper.

But parts for the old lighting system have slowly become unavailable, said Daniel Triana, a spokesperson for the state Department of Transportation.

So a new and improved lighting system that retains the look of the old lights, but is far more efficient will replace them.
