"Teddy Roosevelt once said, 'Speak softly and carry a big stick,'" Marte said. "In Pat's case, he speaks softly and carries a big baseball bat."

"To whatever concerns or issues may come the way of our committee, Pat's back will knock them right out of the park. I'm confident that this mayor will be a home run for our town," Marte continued.

Pipi thanked the committee for their work and other township professionals as well.

"It has been my honor to have just completed my fourth year of service to the committee," Pipi said. "In that time, we've seen this town grow and prosper substantially."

"I want to thank you for putting your faith and trust in me to serve as deputy mayor," Marte said.

He said that he believes that Barnegat is blessed with "some of the best," thanking the township's employees.

"Barnegat is a place where people can raise a family, shop, dine, walk out streets without fear in the dark, thanks to the leadership of our police chief, Keith Germain," Marte added.

He thanked his wife, family and friends who were present at the meeting.

The meeting was also attended by Assemblyman Brian Rumpf, Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove and Ocean County Republican Chairman George Gilmore.
