New Poll Shows Christie A Long Shot For President

Governor Chris Christie, who declared his candidacy for president at an event Tuesday in Livingston, ranks 15th among likely GOP race participants, a Quinnipiac University Poll released Wednesday shows.

According to the poll, if the Iowa Republican Caucus were held today, Christie would get one percent of the vote. He also ranks third on the “no way” list, with 18 percent of voters saying they would definitely not support him.

Only Donald Trump and Jeb Bush ranked higher on the “no way” list.

Christie’s polling numbers have slipped since the last Quinnipiac poll of likely Iowa caucus Republican candidates. In May, he polled at 3 percent; In February he polled at 4 percent.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker leads the pack with 18 percent of likely GOP caucus participants favoring him in the poll.

At 10 percent each, Donald Trump and Ben Carson are tied for second place.

“Iowa front-runner Scott Walker, the governor of neighboring Wisconsin, remains in front, but his support continues to drop. Meanwhile, behind Walker are a half-dozen wannabes who are fighting for second place,” the poll summary said.
