📰 News we're reading

• Scisco Scores Four to Push Barnegat Past Pinelands (thesandpaper.net) — Barnegat boys soccer just snapped a rough stretch in a big way, routing rival Pinelands 6-0 behind four goals from senior standout Nate Scisco. The Bengals are now 8-3 after learning some hard lessons against tougher opponents, and coaches say those humbling losses are helping them adjust and grow. Local fans can expect more defensive attention on Scisco as Barnegat chases consistency.

• Plea Talks Ongoing In Fatal Ocean County Boat Crash (jerseyshoreonline.com) — A Barnegat woman's separate homicide-by-vessel case is mentioned alongside new details in an alleged drunk-boating crash on Barnegat Bay that killed one man and badly injured two others near the Route 37 bridge. Prosecutors and defense attorneys are still negotiating a possible plea for the Somerset County defendant, with the next Ocean County Superior Court hearing set for November 16.

• Lefty's, Mud City Go Home as Chowder Champions (thesandpaper.net) — Barnegat was proudly represented at the Beach Haven Chowder Cook-Off, where Lefty's Tavern of Barnegat defended its Team Red crown against a packed field of local favorites. Despite dreary, foggy weather, crowds filled the tasting tents, voting via QR-coded poker chips while longtime LBI restaurants and first-time entrants traded friendly jabs. Proceeds from the reimagined event support Southern Ocean County food banks and Beach Haven parks.
