PHOTOS: Nor'easter Hits Long Beach Island

Local beaches were battered and Long Beach Island streets were flooded as a nor'easter plowed through on Monday and early Tuesday.

Local beaches were battered and Long Beach Island streets were flooded as a nor'easter plowed through on Monday and early Tuesday.

A number of schools were delayed or canceled on Tuesday as several inches of snow, sleet and rain fell across the state, and strong winds exceeding 55 mph plagued many towns.

In Long Beach Island, Long Beach Boulevard has flooding in many areas - just about every passable street had some issue:

  • People are actually stopping for the red light at 28th Street with water covering half their wheels or more, or even up to their door.
  • Fire hydrants in front and across the street from Faria's were almost completely covered. Pickup trucks and SUVs slogging through.
  • Long Beach Boulevard has been shut down in spots, and there are some fears about what could happen when the tide peaks at Manahawkin Bridge.
  • Currently the tide is about 3 inches above last night's. The lights on the new gazebo at the end of 20th were flickering about 10 minutes ago and are now out due to water.
