Police Substation Should Curtail 'Negative Elements' In Settlers Landing
Substation will be located on Lexington Boulevard, Barnegat mayor says.

Barnegat officials are hoping a police department substation will cut back on the “negative element” that has worked its way into the Settlers Landing development, according to The Sandpaper.
“Decades and two recessions later, Settlers Landing has faced an onslaught of families that were unable to maintain their homes, and a small influx of a negative element engaged in several different sorts of illegal activity,” Mayor Susan McCabe has said. “This, coupled with an understaffed police department, who at times is limited to two patrols on a shift, has left us in a position of vulnerability, which is unacceptable.”
The satellite police station will operate out of a vacant building the township purchased for $60,000.

“We are making good progress on all the building work,” McCabe said at the Nov. 16 township committee meeting. “We’d like to see it become operational by the beginning of next year.”
