A benefit for the Barr family will also take place at 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Manahawkin Elks Lodge (520 Hilliard Blvd.). Tickets will cost $50 each. The event will include beer and wine.

When Superstorm Sandy turned Ship Bottom's streets into an extension of the ocean, SBPD used Barr's personal boat to navigate the streets, according to The Press of Atlantic City. Officers, including Barr, pushed the small boat through water and winds up to 65 mph.

Barr rescued a woman trapped in her vehicle that had stalled, where water was filling fast. He pulled the woman out of her car and took her to the hospital, where she was treated for hypothermia.
