Ship Bottom Public Works Truck Strikes, Injures Vacationer Reading On The Beach: Prosecutor's Office

A Toronto, Canada, woman was struck by a Ship Bottom Public Works truck Wednesday morning while she was reading in the sand on the Third Avenue beach, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

Megan Fabieniak, 38, suffered minor injuries to her arm and leg, spokesman Al Della Fave said. She was taken to Atlantic City Medical Center for treatment and is listed in stable condition.

Officers who responded discovered that the Ship Bottom Public Works Ford F Series truck, operated by Brian Archer, 42, was making morning trash pickups on the beach when he struck Fabieniak, Della Fave said.

Fabieniak was reading on the beach when the front wheel of the vehicle struck her.

"The truck then stopped on top of Megan Fabienak," Della Fave said.

She was rescued from underneath the truck and treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital, he said.

Archer was taken to Southern Ocean County Hospital where he consented to submit blood samples for chemical testing and agreed to provide a taped statement, Della Fave said.

Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Accident Investigations Unit, Ship Bottom police and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department CSI unit assisted.
