N.J. Blizzard:Southern Ocean County Storm Updates: Family Rescued in Surf City

Second high tide on Saturday night left its mark on Long Beach Island.

Southern Ocean County, including Long Beach island, is weathering the second high tide of the blizzard.

Surf City police reported rescued a family from their home on Sixth Street on Saturday night, when the second tide came rushing in, according to the police department Facebook page.

“High tide on the bayside,” the post read. Patrolman Raimondi and Patrolman Rice, who were assisted by SCFD members, evacuated a family (voluntarily) from the 300 block on Sixth Street. Here’s a photo taken by Patrolman Rice showing how deep the water is at this time in areas on the bayside.”

The Beach Haven Fire Department was inundated with flood waters on Saturday night. Check out the video.

Stafford Township police expect a major tidal surge of 3.5 feet to 4 feet, which will have significant impacts, according to the police department’s Facebook page.

Saturday night’s high tide won’t be quite as bad, with a short, quick buildup of water with no preceding northeast winds, which may help some of the back bays.

Stafford Police have also opened up a warming center after 30 reported outages.

Stafford Police say the storm has resulted in many downed wires. Please stay away from wires and contact the police department if you see one. There is no way to tell if the wires are energized or not.

The electric company is aware of the many downed wires but they are swamped with calls for service so it may take several hours for them to repair the wires.

Please use common sense and stay inside today.

Barnegat emergency management officials have suggested voluntary evacuations in homes between Edison Road and the municipal bathing beach, including the lagoon streets, according to the police department Facebook page.

Police are also reporting multiple wires down on Bayshore Drive and flooding. They are asking anyone on the road to avoid the area.

Barnegat police have opened up the Russell L. Brackman school at 600 Barnegat Boulevard as a shelter and warming center due to power outages.

Long Beach Township police report the bay high tides of concern will occur on Saturday at 9:50 a.m. Saturday at 10:15 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Please remove cars from flood prone areas and streets.

Surf City police are reporting downed wires on the Boulevard and flooding. Please do not go out on the roads.
