Southern Regional Students 'Have a Good Time' While Filming Lip Dub
About 250 students, some wearing costumes of characters like Captain America, contributed to the video
While many spent the last week of summer break at the beach, a group of 250 high school students along with their teachers produced Sfirst Lip Dub.
The lip dub is a type of video that combines lip synching and audio dubbing to make a music video. In this case, Southern students are lip synching over a medley of songs, by artists like Owl City and One Direction. The video was dubbed over in post editing with the original audio of the songs.
High School advisors spent the summer planning with Modern Media teachers Leah Lukas and John Kaszuba of SNN and Assistant Principal Joseph Medica.

"A lot of schools have been doing them," Medica told Patch. "It is a great way to showcase the students' talents, show off what kind of school you are, and show your school spirit."
Lip dubs are done in a single unedited shot that often travel through different rooms and situations within a building, in this case, through the 11-12 building, into the cardio room, through the school's cafeteria, and ending up in the library. Costumed characters can be seen throughout the video, including an exercising gorilla, Captain America, Mario from Super Mario Brothers, and others.

Medica said the filming took place on Aug. 28, and took about five takes to get it right.
"The thing about a lip dub is it's a straight through shot, so everyone has to do it right or you have to do it over," Medica said. "What was really interesting is watching the kids work together, some of the students had to run behind the cameraman, and then in front to get in the next shot."
Medica said the video has been playing this week to the student body, and he said, "we're already talking about another one. It was really fun." The Lip Dub is posted on the Southern Regional website here.
