Special Meeting Set To Appoint New Mayor Of Stafford

The appointee will serve as mayor throughout the rest of 2024.

STAFFORD, NJ — The Stafford Township Council has set a special meeting for Jan. 31 in order to appoint a new mayor.

Whoever is appointed as mayor will serve throughout 2024, as Myhre's term was slated to end this year. A full-term mayor will be elected this November.

According to a report by The Sandpaper, the three candidates for mayor are former longtime Mayor Carl Block, Councilman Robert Henken and Councilwoman Amy Otte.

Henken was elected in 2018, while Otte was elected in 2021. Block served as mayor of Stafford for 26 years, until losing the election in 2009.

The council has until Feb. 9 to appoint a new mayor. If they are unable to come to a majority consensus, it gets sent back to the Ocean County Republican Committee to select one. The county committee will do the same if Otte or Henken are appointed to fill their council seat.

The meeting is set for Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in the Township Council Meeting Room in the Municipal Building (260 East Bay Ave.).
