Before you let anyone in your home or business who claims to be a utility worker, make sure they have the proper identification.

Stafford police were recently notified by New Jersey Natural Gas Co. that the utility has received reports of individuals who falsely represent themselves as company employees, according to the police department Facebook page.

“We want to remind all residents to always ask to see identification any time a gas company or any other utility representative arrives at their home or business,” the post states. ”All utility employees carry photo identification, as do contractors working on behalf of the company.
