Stafford Historical Society Looking For More Members

Learn more about the organization at an upcoming meeting at the Old Manahawkin Baptist Church next week.

Back in 1965, the fledgling Stafford Township Historical Society had 350 members.

But 50 years later, that number is hovering around 100. So historical society members will speak about the township’s history at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 at the Old Manahawkin Baptist Church on Route 9, according to The Sandpaper.

Society Vice-President Frank Kowalczyk hopes the meeting will attract new members. The group needs more members to take a “more active role,” he said.

““If you have a bent for history, we can find a research project for you,” he said. “If you have an outgoing nature, we can train you as a tour guide in our museums. If you have typing and/or filing skills, you can help us sort and catalog our various documents and scrapbook items. If you have a creative mind, you can help us create appealing displays for our museums.”

The historical society is responsible for the Old Manahawkin Baptist Church and cemetery, the Old and New Methodist Cemeteries, the Manahawkin Railroad Station and passenger car, the Old Stone Store and the Cavalry Cottage.
