State DOT Now Providing Shuttle Bus Service From Manahawkin To LBI

Service will continue while the sidewalk is closed, DOT says.

Pedestrians and bicyclists who can no longer cross over Manahawkin Bay due to the state’s massive bridge project will still be able to get to Long Beach Island via a shuttle bus service while the work is being done.

The sidewalk that connected the mainland In Stafford Township to Ship Bottom was closed on Nov. 2 for renovations.

To avoid leaving employees without vehicles who work on the island stranded, the state Department of Transportation is providing a shuttle bus that will run from Manahawkin Plaza with eastbound stops at Bonnett and the Waterfront Park in Ship Bottom.

The return trip will stop at The Marina, Dutchman’s Brauhaus, at the contractor’s office on East Bay Avenue in Manahawkin and ending back at Manahawkin Plaza.

“This is a temporary alternative that will operate seven days a week while the sidewalk is closed,” according to a DOT release.
