Suspect In Brutal Barnegat Light Murder Will Go On Trial in 2018

Conrad Sipa, is accused of killing New York firefighter Richard P. Doody back in 2015.

TOMS RIVER, NJ - The man accused of the gruesome murder of his friend in the man's Barnegat Light home in slated to go on trial nearly three years after the crime, according report in nj.com.

Conrad Sipa, Colts Neck, is expected to go on trial on Nov. 5, 2018 for the murder, which occurred on Nov. 23, 2015 in Richard P. Doody's Central Avenue vacation home on Long Beach Island.

Doody, a retired FDNY lieutenant who lived in the Tottenville section of Staten Island, was found beaten to death with his throat slashed, authorities have said.

Conrad Sipa is facing up to life in prison for the murder.

The state will not accept anything less than a first-degree murder plea, which carries a minimum sentence of 30 years, Assistant Prosecutor Meghan O'Neill said during a pre-trial conference on Monday before Superior Court Judge James Blaney.

Sipa's defense attorneys have filed a motion to suppress evidence that will be heard on Nov. 30. They want the search warrant for Sipa's home thrown out due to lack of probable cause.

Sipa, 53, is charged with murder and possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose.

Doody was struck so hard with the golf club that the graphite neck of the club split, and his neck was severed "so severely that his trachea was cut through and through," O'Neill has said.

Sipa, Colts Neck, also returned to the home several times to clean up around Doody's body, authorities said.

O'Neill said Sipa's fingerprints were found in Doody's bloody home. Sipa's E-Z Pass records show he went to Doody's home before and after the murder, she said
