There's Still Time To Apply for Waretown's Junior Police Academy

Enrollment in the popular program is limited, don't wait to apply.

The Ocean Township Police Department will hold its popular Junior Police Academy for fourth, fifth and sixth graders this summer, beginning in July.

The program is not a "boot camp" for troubled students. It's designed to operate like an actual police academy, according to a police department release.

Students will learn police procedures, history of law enforcement, police K-9, special weapons and tactics (S.W.A.T) traffic safety, Haz-Mat, emergency management, motorcycle patrol, bicycle patrol and criminal investigations.

The program will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from July 18 to July 22.

Participants must be current fourth or fifth-graders or sixth-graders who have attended the program in a previous year. All students must live in Ocean Township.

The cost of the academy is $75, which will be collected upon acceptance. Applications will be sent home with students from school in the near future. Applications can also be picked up at police headquarters anytime.

"Due to the overwhelming response the last four years and the increase in attendance, we will be limiting enrollment, the release states. "Please do not wait to turn in your application. Acceptance will be on a first come first serve basis.
