Township Woman Charged with Burglary, Theft

Police say resident broke into a home in January and last week stole cash from a neighbor

A Barnegat woman has been charged with multiple offenses after tying her to recent incidents of buglary and theft.

Police say Kerri Conroy, 25, broke into a Village Drive home Jan. 17 and stole a laptop computer. She then sold it to a third party who was unaware that the laptop had been stolen, said Lt. Keith Germain of the Barnegat Township Police Department.

Police recovered the computer and were able to develop probable cause that Conroy committed the burglary, Germain said.

In a separate incident Feb. 14, Conroy's neighbor allowed Conroy to enter the neighbor's Deck Street home to use the phone, Germain said. When the neighbor went to get Conroy a phone book, Conroy allegedly took two bank envelopes containing $210 from the victim's purse.

Conroy was charged with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree theft for the break-in and fourth-degree theft for stealing the money, Germain said. She remains in the Ocean County Jail, where she was already lodged on unrelated charges, he said.
