Tuckerton Seaport Visitor Center Soaked When Fire Sprinkler Goes Off

Seaport officials need $10,000 in donations to fix the water damage until the insurance money comes in.

Early in the morning of May 3, the fire suppression sprinkler of the top floor of the Visitors' Center at the Tuckerton Seaport went off.

The water trickled down and soaked all three floors of the center, including the gift shop, offices, several exhibits and the electrical room, according to the Seaport's Facebook page.

Just what caused the sprinklers to go off is unknown, because there was no fire. All three floors had a "significant" amount of water damage. The insurance company is processing the claim, but $10,000 is needed for the center's immediate expenses, including the insurance deductible, the page states.

"To continue to serve as a community museum, the Seaport's pop-up Gift Shop, Office, and entryway have been relocated to the Hunting Shanty," the page states. "All events and school tours will continue as scheduled, but we need your help to make it through this emergency period to meet immediate expenses."
