Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) occurs when plaque – a fatty substance -- builds up in the arteries.

Over time, the plaque can harden and narrow the arteries, reducing blood flow and leading to a heart attack or stroke.

“PAD is a silent killer, but it’s highly treatable,” says Dr. Hager, a board-certified vascular surgeon with more than 25 years of experience. “Early detection is extremely important, to help prevent serious problems.”

Varicose veins are also a true medical condition – not just a cosmetic issue, he states. These thick, bulging veins worsen if left untreated.

“They become more painful, swollen, and eventually damage the skin,” explains Dr. Hager, noting men and women can both be affected.

The latest varicose vein treatments include non-surgical techniques that are often pain-free, require little recovery time and are covered by many health insurance plans.

During the free vein screenings, Dr. Hager will examine each participant’s varicose veins, provide recommendations and discuss treatment options.

Dr. Hager heads Advocare Hager Advanced Vein Care in Manahawkin, a leader in the evaluation and comprehensive treatment of venous and arterial diseases since 1993. Dedicated to providing an outstanding patient experience, the practice features a caring, friendly staff and a no-wait policy in the waiting room.

Dr. Hager’s presentations and vein screenings are sponsored by the Care To Be Aware Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the public about important health issues.
