Voluntary Evacuations Suggested In Lagoon And Bayfront Areas Of Barnegat Before Sunday Afternoon

Recommendations are not mandatory, police and officials say.

Barnegat police and township emergency management officials are suggesting that residents who live in lagoon and bayfront areas whose homes are susceptible to flooding voluntarily evacuate before Sunday afternoon, according to a Nixle alert.

"It is recommended that reisdents in these areas move vehices to higher ground and secure all loose outdoor items," the alert states.

Moderate to major flooding for some Ocean County coastal areas is possible, including the bayfront and back bay areas of Barnegat.

"Forecast flooding will likely make Bayshore Drive and East Bay Avenue impassable between the bathing beach and East Bay bridge, the alert states.

There is no order for mandatory evacuations. A separate release will be issued if that becomes necessary.
