What's Coming Up at Tonight's Zoning Board Meeting

Board expected to address trash truck storage variance

The Barnegat Zoning Board is scheduled to address a variance request that would allow a solid waste company to store garbage trucks on its Route 72 property.

The variance request by Pinto Land Management has been before the board since the spring of this year. Andrew Pinto of South Plainfield has applied for several variances that would allow him to use the 2.4-acre site at the intersection of Route 72 and Bay Avenue for truck and container storage.

Pinto is asking permission to park 12 garbage containers and 12 garbage trucks at his gas station and auto shop site near the intersection of routes 72 and 554 in Barnegat. Nearby residents have raised concerns over the safety of trucks using the busy intersection and the landowner's ability to control odors from vehicles and containers.

A resolution on the issue has been repeatedly postponed, due to Pinto's absence and the board's failure to meet a quorum for a vote. According to the board's agenda for tonight's meeting, a decision on the variance is due Dec. 15.

The board is also expected to address a bulk variance requested by Glen Kelly, LLC, for a property at 319 Bayshore Drive.
