$1.6M Awarded For Elevator, Lobby Addition In Bernards Township
After 4 years of planning, the addition of the elevator and new lobby to help Bernards Township conform to ADA standards will move forward.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — After four years, Bernards Township's plan to add an elevator and lobby in the Municipal Building to conform to the Americans with Disabilities Act will finally move forward.
The Township Committee voted unanimously to approve the award of a contract to West End-KB, LLC in Oceanport for $1,598,1000.
The cost is covered under two grants the Township received in 2021 for $1,378,859.64 and in 2022 for $219,240.36.

Township Administrator Pat Monaco said the Township had begun working on this project in 2020.
The Township previously went out to bid on the project, however, due to it being during the pandemic and with supply chain issues they received no bidders.

The project includes the addition of an elevator (that goes from the basement up to the second floor) and lobby which will be located where the current rear entrance to the building is. It will connect the mansion and the most current addition in the back.
The exterior of the addition copies the existing roofline, brick veneer, and windows on the mansion.
Construction is expected to begin in the spring and should take 9 months to complete, said Monaco.
"It will make the entire building up to the second floor ADA accessible. It is long overdue," said Monaco.
