12 Unlocked Cars Burglarized, 1 Stolen Overnight In Basking Ridge

Bernards Township Police are reminding residents to keep their vehicles locked and keep valuables out of sight.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — After 12 unlocked cars were burglarized and one stolen in one night, Bernards Township Police are warning residents to be vigilant.

All of the crimes were committed during the overnight hours of Sunday, June 3.

Cash and other valuables left inside were stolen from 12 vehicles parked in the northern section of the township including: Cherry Lane, Walnut Circle, East Craig Street, Ellis Drive and Berta Place, Nernard Towship Police Chief Mike Shimsky reported.

All of the vehicles that were burglarized were unlocked, Shimsky said.

A 2012 Toyota Highlander was also stolen from the driveway of a Ellis Drive home. It was found later in the day in East Hanover after police there spotted it and chased it, Shimsky said.

The suspects in the vehicle were described only as a black man and black woman who escaped after running away from the vehicle.

It is uncertain if these crimes are associated with a larger network of criminal activity that has been happening around the state, Shimsky said.

Bernards Township residents are reminded to keep their vehicles locked and keep valuables out of sight.

Suspicious activity in your neighborhood should also be reported immediately to the police at 908-766-1122. For all emergencies, residents should dial 9-1-1.
