8 Officers Promoted In Basking Ridge

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — A chain of promotions within the Bernards Township Police Department were finalized at a recent committee meeting, following Michael Shimsky's promotion to Chief of Police.

A total of eight officers were promoted and one new officer was hired during the April 10 meeting.

• Michael Voorhees was promoted to full time Deputy Police Chief with an annual salary of $155,998
• Mark Leopold was promoted to full time Captain with an annual salary of $152,413.74
• Jon Burger was promoted to full time Lieutenant with an annual salary of $140,082.17
• Timothy King was promoted to full time Sergeant with an annual salary of $121,061.47
• Robert Herndon was promoted to full time Corporal with an annual salary increase of $1,600
• Alex McKnight was promoted to full time Corporal with an annual salary increase of $1,600
• Steven Matthews was promoted to full time Corporal with an annual salary increase of $1,600
• Raymond Gizienski was promoted to full time Corporal with an annual salary increase of $1,600

Additionally, Christopher Hurst was appointed as the OEM Coordinator for a 3 year term expiring April 10, 2021. He had previously served as the Deputy OEM Coordinator since 2006 and is replacing Shimsky.

Detective John Neiman was also appointed to complete the unexpired 1 year term of Sergeant Hurst as the Office of Emergency Management Deputy Coordinator until Dec. 31.

Officer Dominic Aboosamara was also hired as the newest officer to the department.
