Fellowship Village Residents Enjoy New Wellness Program

Imagine seeing a group of Baby Boomers shoot hoops at the local gym.  It’s not an unusual sight these days as many Boomers stay fit by engaging in athletic games.   Now imagine seniors born before the Boomer generation, learning to “pass, dribble, and shoot” in a swimming pool.  Andy Van Orden, a physical therapist at Fellowship Village not only imagines it, he’s the head coach for water basketball at the continuing care retirement community in Basking Ridge.

Van Orden and the rehabilitation team at Fellowship Village are committed to inspiring older adults to stay active.  In addition to offering speech, physical and occupational therapy, the department rolled out a new Health and Wellness program. Water basketball is the program’s most recent initiative.

The rehabilitation department at Fellowship Village has experienced a period of innovative growth.   A 2012 renovation created two state of the art gyms.  The department was also licensed to provide out-patient therapy services for the general public.
