Baby Deer Rescued By Officers In Basking Ridge

The fawn was hit by a car Tuesday morning before falling down an embankment into a creek in Basking Ridge.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ -- A baby deer that was hit by a car and thrown down an embankment in Basking Ridge on Tuesday was rescued.

Bernards Township Police Officer Harrison Kirby and Bernards Township Animal Control Officer Michelle Santoro made the daring rescue after the fawn was struck by a vehicle on Somerville Road. The fawn ended up in a creek Tuesday morning, police reported.

The driver that struck the deer was able to show officals where it came to rest.

Both Kirby and Santoro climbed down the steep embankment and carried the deer to safety, police report.

The deer was handed over to Antler-Ridge for rehabilitation.
