Basking Ridge: 2014 Somerset Hills AAUW Annual Book Sale Begins This Thursday
The Somerset Hills AAUW Book Sale starts this Thursday and runs through Saturday at the Bernardsville Middle School on Seney Drive.

The Somerset Hills AAUW Book Sale starts this Thursday and runs through Saturday at the Bernardsville Middle School on Seney Drive. The Book Sale has been a part of our community for over 60 years. The yearly event is one of the area’s summer highlights, luring bookworms and dealers from the tri-state area and further afar. Volunteers sort more than 40,000 books of all shapes, sizes, and topics.
The books are categorized according to genre from classics to science fiction, sports, mystery, childrens, true story, war and military, hobbies, religion, sets and thousands of hardcover and paperback fiction. We have like new re-releases of author Georgette Heyer to old Nancy Drew books. DVD’s and CD’s are also among the items for sale.
In our Choice and Rare Room, we have a wonderful collection of books from the Blairsden Estate, one of the Mansions in May homes. This year, we also have a special collection of history books. And, as always, we have some unique cookbooks and collectibles for sale in the Choice and Rare Room.

Book prices will remain the same as last year. Books in the main room, both hardback and paperback, will be sold at $1.00. Children’s books vary in price. On the first day, Thursday, there will be a 25% premium on books in the main room. Rare and choice books in the separate room managed by Beryl Hunter are priced individually and are not subject to the first day 25% premium. There is no admission charge to attend our book sale. However, admission numbers will be passed out to determine entry order for the long line that always forms on the morning of the first day of the sale starting at 9:00 am.
This is our only Branch fundraiser and a wonderful service project to our community. We usually collect over $25,000 for our AAUW scholarships, our local libraries and our other supported charities. Hopefully, we’ll do it again this year. 100% of the monies raised after expenses (which are not much) goes to charity.
