Basking Ridge Appoints Deputy Police Chief
Bernards Township Captain Michael Shimsky has been promoted to full time Deputy Chief of Police.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — The Bernards Township Committee promoted Captain Michael Shimsky to full time Deputy Chief of Police during their Jan. 10 meeting.
Shimsky "has demonstrated highly effective performance in his role as Captain, and is qualified to fill said position; and the Chief of Police, Township Administrator and Human Resources Officer recommend appointment of Captain Shimsky to full time Deputy Chief of Police," the resolution stated.
Effective on Wednesday, Shimsky was named Deputy Chief with a salary of $152,940 and approves the Memorandum of Understanding. The memorandum encompasses his sick leave time and benefits which equal to a maximum of $98,127.59 upon his retirement.

Shimsky was also assigned as liaison to the Office of Emergency Management. He has served in Emergency Management since 2000 and successfully filled the role of OEM Coordinator since 2006, the committee wrote in the resolution.
Shimsky will be compensated for his role as the OEM Coordinator for an annual stipend of $8,000.
