Basking Ridge Oak Tree Interpretation Of American Flag For Sale
"Much like the flag is a symbol of unity for our country, the old oak tree was a unifying part of our community:" Forged In Wood.
BASKING RIDGE, NJ — As the two-year anniversary of the removal 619-year-old Basking Ridge Oak Tree nears, an oak interpretation of the American Flag carved that very tree has been unveiled by Forged in Wood.
"The historic oak was witness to the American Revolution including General George Washington and his troops. The church yard is the final resting site of dozens of Revolutionary War soldiers, and possibly the burial site of Betsy Ross, the seamstress of the first American flag," said Forged in Wood co-owners Dave Schneck and Keith Keiling. "Much like the flag is a symbol of unity for our country, the old oak tree was a unifying part of our community. These handmade pieces of history will be cherished for generations."
Forged in Wood, with an agreement with the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church, has been carving pieces of furniture, household items, art pieces and more to memorialize the beloved township tree.

"It has been an honor to have the privilege of working with the Basking Ridge Oak. From the momentous task of removing it to working with the ancient wood. Each piece evokes a different emotion while crafting it, pondering the varied events and stories that it may have silently witnessed during its 619 years since it first took root," said Forged in Wood co-owners Dave Schneck and Keith Keiling. "Our hope is to create one of a kind pieces that can keep the majesty of the tree alive so that it can live more than another 619 years, even if it isn’t still in its full glory in the center of town."
The Basking Ridge Oak Collection, presented by Forged in Wood, is available exclusively at The Rebecca Collection and now online at forgedinwood.net.
The tree had been considered possibly the oldest oak tree in the country. It was cut down in April 2017.
