Basking Ridge: Operation Secure Shred To Occur On Oct. 3
Somerset County and Montgomery Township are sponsoring Operation Secure Shred on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

MONTGOMERY, NJ – Somerset County and Montgomery Township are sponsoring Operation Secure Shred on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Montgomery Township High School, located at 1016 Rte. 601, Skillman, NJ 08558 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until the trucks are filled. The event is a FREE and easy way for residents to help guard against identity theft and protect the environment. The event will occur rain or shine.

To comply with social distancing guidelines, residents must wear facial coverings and should be prepared to unload their items, but staff will be available to help if necessary.
“Last year there were more than 3 million reports of identity theft and fraud,” said Freeholder Melonie Marano, public works liaison. “I encourage residents to take advantage of Operation Secure Shred, a free service that will help protect residents against identity theft. Residents can watch as their documents are shredded by trained, licensed, and bonded document-destruction specialists.”

Proof of residency is required: Residents must be prepared to present a current driver's license, valid lease, tax bill or any other bill that shows proof of a Somerset County address. Pre-registration is not required. Businesses and commercial vehicles are NOT allowed.
Residents from all 21 Somerset County municipalities can attend as many shredding events, as they like, and can participate even if they do not reside in the towns that are holding the events. To view a list of upcoming shredding events, visit www.co.somerset.nj.us/shredding.
Participants can bring up to six boxes, containers or bags of documents per visit, but they will be required to take back their receptacles. Staples and paperclips do not have to be removed. Junk mail, magazines and newspapers will NOT be accepted.
