Basking Ridge: Project First Class Donors Get An A+ For Generosity

SOMERVILLE, NJ – Recently, the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Foodbank Network of Somerset County sponsored Project First Class to collect school supplies for students of Somerset County families who are in need.
“The pandemic has changed the way kids are going to school, including the expansion of remote learning where it’s impossible to just lean across the aisle and borrow a pen or notepaper,” said Somerset County Freeholder Deputy Director Sara Sooy, who previously served on the Somerset Hills Board of Education.

“For families experiencing additional financial struggles due to the pandemic, receiving these gifts from Somerset County’s generous residents, businesses, and charitable organizations means the world.”
The donations were collected at the Somerset County Administration Building and delivered to the Food Bank Network of Somerset County where items are distributed directly to the families and students, they will help the most.
The Food Bank Network of Somerset County is a charitable, not-for-profit organization, which receives funding through donations provided by individuals, families, philanthropic organizations, businesses and corporations.
Somerset County is governed and managed by a Board of Chosen Freeholders, which consists of five members who are elected each year by residents of the county to serve three-year terms. Among the many essential services provided by Somerset County government are higher education, road and bridge maintenance, curbside recycling, parks and recreation, employment training, social services, recording of deeds and wills and much more.
